Nigeria’s First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, will visit Benue on Tuesday under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), engage women, inaugurate key infrastructural projects and inaugurate a community ICT centre.

The visit, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the chief press secretary to Gov. Hyacinth Alia, Mr Tersoo Kula, forms part of the nationwide programme aimed at empowering women, strengthening families and improving the welfare of vulnerable groups.

During the visit, Mrs Tinubu, who is also the National Chairman of the Renewed Hope Initiative, will interact with women and beneficiaries of the scheme as part of efforts to deepen its grassroots impact across the state.

Gov. Alia described the visit as a positive demonstration of collaboration between the federal and Benue governments in advancing the welfare of citizens, particularly women and families.

A major highlight of the visit would be the commissioning of 10 newly completed intra-city roads in Makurdi, part of more than 45 roads constructed by the Alia administration.

The roads, covering about 11.5 kilometres, are expected to improve mobility, stimulate economic activities and enhance residents’ quality of life.

They include Ishaya Bakut Road (Dual Carriageway), three spurs, Abu King Shuluwa Road, Mama Mbateren Alia Street, Dabo Plaza to Fashion Hub Road, Sir James Iorpuu Street, Tyagher Gbaa Street and Jato-Aka Road.

The First Lady is also expected to travel to Ihugh, where she would inaugurate and hand over a community ICT centre.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Mrs Scholastica Bensor, Benue Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady and State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, said preparations had been concluded for a successful programme.

She said women across the state were enthusiastic about receiving the First Lady and urged residents, community leaders and support groups to turn out in large numbers to welcome her.

Bensor noted that the visit would further strengthen efforts aimed at empowering women and promoting sustainable development in the state.
