A 26-year-old lawyer, Sarah Araba Tettey, has died from cardiac arrest while celebrating Ghana’s victory over Panama on Wednesday.
themomentng understands that Tettey, an alumna of the Faculty of Law at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was called to the Ghana Bar earlier this year and had begun practising with O & A Legal Consult, according to sources familiar with the matter.
She was reportedly watching the match with friends at Standard Hostel, a private facility located at Bomso near KNUST, when the incident occurred.
Witnesses said she suddenly collapsed during celebrations following Ghana’s victory.
Friends and bystanders rushed her to the KNUST Hospital, popularly known as Tech Hospital, where medical personnel reportedly performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for about 45 minutes in an effort to revive her.
Despite the prolonged efforts of doctors and nurses, she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
News of her passing has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s legal community, particularly among members of the KNUST law fraternity and her colleagues from the Ghana School of Law, many of whom knew her personally.
Known simply as Araba Tettey to friends and colleagues, she was admired for her professionalism and regarded as one of the promising young talents within the legal profession.
Her death has left many grieving what they describe as the loss of a bright and promising legal mind.
Her body has been deposited at the KNUST Medical School mortuary pending further arrangements.
