Incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken an early commanding lead in the Ekiti State governorship election, according to live polling unit results released on Saturday.

As of 1:23 p.m., results from 333 of the state’s 2,445 polling units showed Oyebanji polling 37,416 votes, representing 83.8 per cent of the valid votes counted so far.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Oluyede Olumayokun Oluwole, was in second place with 4,935 votes, accounting for 11.1 per cent, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Bejide Oluwadare Patrick, trailed with 988 votes, representing 2.2 per cent.

Other candidates recorded significantly lower figures in the early tally. Ayodeji Ojo of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) had 643 votes, Joseph Anifowose of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) secured 424 votes, while the remaining candidates posted double-digit and single-digit results.

The total valid votes counted from the 333 polling units stood at 44,637 at the time of the update.

The early figures come as collation continues across the state in the closely watched off-cycle governorship election, with results being aggregated from verified INEC Form EC8A polling unit returns.

Earlier in the day, the ADC recorded its first reported polling unit victory in Ikere Local Government Area, while there were also reports of isolated clashes and allegations of vote buying in some parts of the state.

Despite those concerns, the election has largely remained peaceful, although observers and political actors continue to monitor the collation process closely for transparency and compliance with electoral rules.
