Tony Elumelu, chairman of Heirs Holdings and founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, has stirred conversations online after stating that luck played a major role in his rise to wealth.

Speaking during an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, the billionaire businessman said success is not always determined by intelligence, hard work, or strength alone, noting that luck can sometimes be a crucial factor.

Elumelu acknowledged that he worked diligently throughout his career in the corporate sector but maintained that fortune also contributed significantly to his achievements.

He further encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs to stay focused and resilient, stressing that challenges are an inevitable part of the journey to success. According to him, consistency, determination, and a strong work ethic helped him navigate obstacles and build his career.

“I am here because of luck. At times, you don’t become successful because you are the smartest, strongest, or most energetic. Sometimes, luck plays a role, and I am a product of luck,” he said.

His remarks have since generated mixed reactions, with many expressing surprise that a businessman widely admired for his hard work and accomplishments would credit much of his success to luck.
