eTranzact International Plc has intensified efforts to deepen financial inclusion in Ogun through the deployment of over 1,000 agents and thousands of PocketMoni terminals across communities in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area.
A statement by the company on Wednesday in Lagos said the onboarding across communities in the area were ongoing.
The initiative, implemented through the company’s PocketMoni Business platform in collaboration with the Zonal Community Development Committee (CDC), is aimed at expanding access to digital financial services in underserved communities.
The company said the programme was also creating income opportunities for residents and small business owners while bringing banking services closer to the grassroots.
Under the initiative, residents can now access services such as cash withdrawals, transfers, bill payments and other digital financial transactions within their communities, reducing the need for long-distance travel to banking locations.
Speaking on the development, Chairman of the Zonal Community Development Committee (CDC), Obafemi Owode, Mr Gboyega Adeleke, said the intervention is a major boost to financial access and economic activities in the area.
“Before PocketMoni came, our people had to travel far for simple withdrawals and bill payments.
“Today, those services are available within our communities through people we know and trust. This is a development that directly impacts lives,” Adeleke said.
Mr Olalekan Disu, the Divisional Head, Financial Inclusion, eTranzact International Plc, said the project demonstrated the benefits of taking financial services directly to local communities.
According to him, financial inclusion goes beyond access to financial products and involves creating opportunities and building trust among community members.
“By empowering local agents and deploying thousands of terminals, we are helping to stimulate economic activity, create livelihoods and make financial services more accessible to people at the grassroots,” he said.
Disu explained that the positive results recorded in Obafemi Owode underscored the importance of community engagement in achieving sustainable financial inclusion and supporting Nigeria’s transition to a digitally enabled economy.
He added that the initiative formed part of the company’s broader strategy to bridge financial access gaps in rural and semi-urban communities while supporting national financial inclusion goals.
According to him, eTranzact plans to replicate the model across other local government areas in the South-West, following the positive response from residents and community stakeholders.
PocketMoni Business is eTranzact’s agency banking platform designed to provide secure and convenient financial services to underserved and unbanked populations through a network of local agents.
