Ebonyi State Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru has approved a major cabinet reshuffle, reassigning several commissioners to new ministries as part of efforts to strengthen governance and enhance service delivery across the state.

The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Barr. Ikeuwa Omebe, announced the changes on Monday while briefing journalists after the State Executive Council meeting held at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Abakaliki.

According to him, the reshuffle followed the swearing-in of two new members of the administration—Professor Omari Omaka (SAN), who was appointed Commissioner for Tertiary Education, and Njoku Onyekachi Felix, who was sworn in as Special Assistant to the Governor before being deployed as Special Assistant on Youth Mobilization.

Under the new arrangement, Hon. Chidi Onyia, who previously served as Commissioner for Solid Mineral Development, has been redeployed to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

Mrs. Dr. Ngozi Obichukwu has been moved from the Ministry of Aviation to the Ministry of Special Projects, while newly sworn-in Commissioner Hon. Sylvester Nwite will oversee the Ministry of Environment.

Professor Adjokaogo has been transferred from the Ministry of Market Development to the Ministry of Skill Acquisition, while Hon. Oko Udo takes over the Ministry of Market Development.

Similarly, Hon. Chinedu Nkah has been redeployed from the Ministry of Water Resources to the Ministry of Solid Mineral Development, while Hon. Richard Idike moves from Youth and Sports Development to the Ministry of Capital City and Urban Development.

Also affected by the reshuffle is Hon. Sunday Elechi Inyima, who leaves the Ministry of Capital City and Urban Development to head the Ministry of Project Monitoring, while Hon. Victor Chukwu Uzoma moves from the Ministry of Environment to the Ministry of Water Resources.

Barr. Omebe said Governor Nwifuru directed that all handing-over and taking-over processes should be completed immediately and not later than the close of work on June 30th, 2026.

“The Governor directed that the handing-over and taking-over should take immediate effect and be concluded with all alacrity and without reservation,” he stated.

The Information Commissioner further disclosed that several commissioners were unaffected by the exercise and would continue in their current positions. They include the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Donatus Ilang of Primary and Secondary Education, the Commissioners for Trade and Investment, Rural Development, Information and State Orientation, among others.

Barr. Omebe said the Executive Council meeting commenced with the swearing-in ceremony for the new commissioner and special assistant, describing their appointments as a call to selfless service.

He said Governor Nwifuru charged the new appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them by consolidating the achievements of his administration under the People’s Charter of Needs agenda.

The governor also congratulated members of the Executive Council on what he described as the successful endorsement rally held on June 15, 2026, in support of President Bola Tinubu, commending the media for their role in ensuring the event received wide publicity.

He urged all members of the cabinet, whether affected by the reshuffle or not, to remain committed to effective service delivery and the overall development of Ebonyi State.
