Brazil on Saturday launched a national training initiative in digital culture to strengthen local communication networks across the country’s six natural biomes while broadening access to modern technologies.

The project is expected to provide training for approximately 4,000 participants, reports Agência Brasil.

The initiative is being implemented by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in partnership with Brazil’s Ministry of Culture through the Secretariat for Artistic and Cultural Education, Books and Reading.

It seeks to equip cultural practitioners and communicators with technical, academic and practical expertise while fostering greater digital inclusion in communities nationwide.

Activities will cover the Amazon, Caatinga, Cerrado, Atlantic Forest, Pantanal and Pampa biomes,
in cooperation with universities across Brazil’s five macro-regions, the training will begin in the second half of the year following a regional schedule.

Thirty community collectives and local projects will be selected to implement initiatives in their respective territories.

Secretary for Artistic and Cultural Education, Books and Reading, Fabiano Piuba, said the project promotes the concepts of both “cultural biomes” and “digital biomes.’’

He said the project will strengthen the links between cultural policy, environmental awareness, and climate-related action.

The curriculum will include discussions on artificial intelligence, ensuring that technological advances support the priorities and needs of local communities.

According to experts, this approach will help participants apply new technologies in ways that reflect the unique characteristics of each territory.

The training will further examine the role of digital environments in contemporary society, offering practical tools to support cultural production, community engagement and innovation.

Unlike previous editions, which centred on major cities including Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia, Curitiba and Fortaleza, the new cycle will focus on five smaller municipalities.

The project will work through face-to-face and remote learning to extend its reach across the country.
