Bosun appointed founding member of ITU’s AI for good global commission

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has been inaugurated as a founding member of the AI for Good Global Commission, a new high-level international body established by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to promote trusted, inclusive, and globally coordinated approaches to artificial intelligence.

The commission is co-chaired by Paul Kagame and Marc Benioff, with Doreen Bogdan- Martin is serving as vice chair. It brings together heads of state, industry leaders, academics, and representatives of international organizations to advance a shared vision of using AI for global benefit.

Tijani described his appointment as recognition of Nigeria’s progress in building a responsible and inclusive artificial intelligence ecosystem. He said the country has made significant investments in digital infrastructure, talent development, research, innovation, and AI governance to position itself as a key player in the emerging AI landscape.

According to the minister, Nigeria’s participation in the commission will also ensure that the perspectives and priorities of Africa and other emerging economies are represented in global discussions that will shape the future development and governance of artificial intelligence.

Tijani said he looks forward to working with fellow commissioners to advance practical AI solutions that can accelerate sustainable development and deliver meaningful social and economic impact worldwide.

He noted that the commission provides an important platform for international collaboration on the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies.
