Management of Federal Polytechnic, Mubi in Adamawa has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the branch Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) to ensure the payments of pension arrears to Pension Administrators within 21 days.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr Abdulrahaman Ishiaka, made this known to newsmen on Friday in Mubi.
Ishiaka said the measure was to ensure stability and promote dialogue in resolving issues in the institution.
He noted that in the past strike action had dragged academic activities backwards, a development that needed to be avoided as a way forward.
“That is why we have to sit with them, even if they are wrong or right, to resolve these issues amicably in order to ensure that the agenda of the government is attainable.
“We sat and came up with MoU between the management and the Union and formed a seven man committee that came up with the steps to follow in order to resolve the issue amicably.”
He appreciated the ASUP members for their understanding and urged for more towards the success and development of the institutions.
Mr Solomon Kadala, the branch Chairman of ASUP, said the polytechnic owes 15 months pension arrears.
According to him, based on the MoU, the management will pay pension arrears for eight and half months before the expiration of the 21 days. If it fails the union will go on strike.
He added that the remaining five months will be paid in October.
