Dr. Samson Olanrewaju, a lecturer in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Osun State University and deputy director of the university’s Global Affairs and Sustainable Development Institute (GASDI), has been awarded the highly competitive German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Fellowship, securing a research placement at the University of Stuttgart, Germany.
According to a statement issued by the university’s public relations officer, Ademola Adesoji, Dr Olanrewaju earned the prestigious fellowship under the DAAD Global Research Programme, an initiative that brings together scholars from the Global North and South to advance cutting-edge research, leadership, and policy solutions in environmental sustainability.
The statement noted that, under the fellowship, Dr Olanrewaju will collaborate with renowned sustainability scholar Professor Astrid Ley at the University of Stuttgart from September to December 2026, where he will undertake advanced research aimed at addressing contemporary environmental and sustainable development challenges.
Congratulating the scholar on the achievement, the Vice-Chancellor of Osun State University, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, described the fellowship as another testament to the University’s growing reputation as a hub for globally competitive research, innovation and academic excellence.
He said the international recognition reflects the calibre of scholars at UNIOSUN and the university’s sustained investment in research, global partnerships, and capacity building.
