British International Investment (BII), the UK’s development finance institution and impact investor, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Africa50 to strengthen collaboration and mobilise more investment into infrastructure projects across Africa.
The agreement was announced at the Infra for Africa Forum 2026 in Tanzania and will create a framework for cooperation on infrastructure financing and development, including co-financing, co-investment, and capital mobilisation.
As part of the partnership, BII has committed $20 million to the Africa50 Infrastructure Acceleration Fund, managed by Africa Infrastructure Investment Partners, a subsidiary of Africa50. The fund targets infrastructure projects across sectors including energy, water and sanitation, transport and logistics, and digital and social infrastructure.
BII’s investment brings the fund to a fourth close of approximately $330 million, alongside commitments from the African Development Bank, International Finance Corporation and more than 20 African institutional investors.
The partnership is intended to help expand the pipeline of bankable infrastructure projects and attract additional public and private capital to sectors critical to Africa’s economic growth and development.
