An Action Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain, Sen. Nicholas Tofowomo, has described the victory of Gov. Ademola Adeleke in the just-concluded Osun governorship election as a reflection of the will of the people of the state.
Tofowomo, a former senator who represented Ondo South Senatorial District at the Ninth Assembly, stated this in a congratulatory message to the governor issued on Sunday in Okitipupa.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Joshua Olalekan-Ogunwole, had earlier on Sunday declared Adeleke of Accord as winner of the keenly contested election.
NAN also reports that Adeleke garnered a total of 511,067 votes to defeat his closest rival, Bola Oyebamiji of All Progressives Congress (APC), who scored 44,815, while Najeem Salaam of African Democratic Congress (ADC) came a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Tofowomo, a former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, also described Adeleke’s win as a victory for good governance, popularity, and a show of love by the people of Osun.
Tofowomo, an ADC candidate for Ondo South Senatorial race in the 2027 general elections, also said the outcome of the election was a reflection of the confidence Osun people reposed in Adeleke’s leadership.
He urged the governor to use the renewed mandate to further unite the people of Osun and consolidate on the gains of his administration while assuring the people of continued commitment to good governance and development.
“I congratulate Adeleke on securing the confidence of the electorate for another term.
“This victory is a significant political achievement, particularly given the highly competitive nature of the election, and it is a clear indication of the confidence the Osun people have reposed in his leadership.
“The people of Osun State have spoken through their votes, and I urge the governor to see this renewed mandate as a greater call to service, responsibility and inclusive governance.
“I am hopeful that his second term will bring even greater development, economic opportunities, improved infrastructure, and better welfare for the people of Osun State.” he said.
Tofowomo commended the people of the state for their participation in the democratic process, noting that the peaceful expression of their choice through the ballot remained an important pillar of democracy.
NAN reports that Adeleke won his first term as governor on the platform of PDP before later crossing to Accord to contest his second term.
