Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, has partnered with EduTech Global to expand digital learning and make its academic programmes more accessible to learners beyond the traditional university campus.

The partnership will see EduTech provide digital learning infrastructure and technology support for the university’s Distance Learning Centre, with the aim of moving key academic and administrative processes online and creating a more scalable distance-learning system.

The collaboration is expected to enable students, including working professionals and other learners unable to participate in conventional full-time campus education, to access university programmes remotely.

Speaking on the partnership, the vice-chancellor of Igbinedion University, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, said the initiative was part of the institution’s effort to prepare graduates for national and global opportunities.

Ezemonye said, “This partnership with EduTech Global represents a bold step into the future of higher education in Nigeria.”

He added that expanding the university’s digital learning infrastructure would help remove geographical barriers to education.

“By expanding our digital learning infrastructure, we are not just breaking down geographical barriers; we are actively contributing to national workforce development by ensuring that quality, industry-aligned education is accessible to every driven learner, regardless of location,” he said.

The university’s move comes amid growing efforts by Nigerian higher institutions to adopt technology-driven teaching and learning models as demand increases for flexible access to tertiary education.

The Director of Igbinedion University Distance Learning Centre, Prof. Gideon Bawa, said the partnership was driven partly by the need to replace manual processes at the centre with a more efficient digital system.

According to him, the university was encouraged by the growth recorded by institutions that had deployed EduTech’s technology and expertise.

He said, “We are confident that this partnership will position Igbinedion University to achieve significant growth in enrolment while strengthening the quality and efficiency of our Distance Learning Centre.”

Bawa added that the partnership would enable the university to digitise most of its academic and administrative activities.

“With this partnership, we expect to move most of our administrative and academic activities online through EduTech. This will improve efficiency, enhance the learner experience and allow our facilitators and students to engage more effectively through a connected digital learning environment,” he said.

The Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of EduTech Global, Femi Shonubi, said the collaboration was designed to go beyond putting university courses online, stressing that technology could help institutions create a more integrated learning ecosystem.

Shonubi said, “Technology’s true value lies in its ability to drive tangible socio-economic impact through education.”

He added that the partnership would help widen access to higher education while supporting the development of skilled manpower.

“By dismantling physical boundaries, we are empowering institutions like Igbinedion University to democratise access to high-quality learning. This is about more than online courses; it is about developing a resilient, highly skilled workforce at scale to meet the demands of the modern economy,” he said.

Shonubi explained that EduTech’s support would cover the broader student journey, from application and enrolment to learning, assessment and graduation.

He said Igbinedion University’s ambition to promote innovative education was aligned with EduTech’s objective of building connected digital learning ecosystems.

The General Manager of EduTech Global, Moyosore Asubiojo, said the partnership was also a response to increasing demand for flexible higher education among working professionals, entrepreneurs and other learners seeking alternatives to conventional full-time university education.

She said combining Igbinedion University’s academic capacity with EduTech’s technology would create additional pathways to higher education and enable the university to expand its reach beyond its traditional geographical footprint.
