The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun 1 Area Command, Idiroko, has reaffirmed its commitment to revenue generation, trade facilitation and border protection.
The Command’s Acting Area Comptroller, Mr Olukayode Afeni, stated this while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Idiroko.
Afeni said the command would remain resolute in its fight against smuggling, describing the activity as a serious threat to the nation’s economy and security.
“Our mandate as an enforcement agency is clear: to intercept and seize prohibited goods and arrest smugglers involved in their illegal trade,” he said.
Afeni said the command would deploy enhanced intelligence, modern technology and stiffer enforcement measures to combat smuggling activities across the nation’s borders.
He noted that the command’s seizure of prohibited goods was aimed at protecting the economy and ensuring the security of lives and property.
Afeni warned economic saboteurs to desist from illegal businesses capable of adversely affecting the country’s economy.
“We will continue to hit smugglers hard and consistently dismantle their networks if they refuse to desist from illegal businesses,” he said.
