Peter Cullen, the Canadian voice actor behind the legendary character Optimus Prime in the ‘Transformers’ franchise, has died at the age of 85.
The death was announced in an official statement posted on his Instagram page.
“It is with an incredibly heavy heart that I acknowledge the passing of the legendary Peter Cullen,” the statement reads.
Cullen was the voice behind Optimus Prime for more than four decades. During his career, he also voiced several other characters and became a well-known figure among generations of fans.
He was described as someone people could look up to, with praise for his kindness, humility, compassion, and wisdom.
“More importantly, Peter himself was someone people could look up to. His kindness, humility, compassion, and wisdom resonated far beyond the characters he portrayed,” the statement reads.
“His work touched millions of people across generations, and his influence will continue through every person who grew up hearing his voice, watching his performances, and carrying the memories he helped create.
“Few people are fortunate enough to leave behind something that becomes part of so many childhoods, friendships, families, and lives.
“Your voice may have fallen silent, but your legacy never will.”
