The United Nations Development Programme has signed a formal partnership with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, becoming the first official partner and lead coalition partner for the RenewHER initiative.

The signing took place on Wednesday at the UN House in Abuja. Senior Special Assistant to the President on Women’s Health, Adanna Steinacker, represented OSSAP-WH, while UNDP Resident Representative in Nigeria, Elsie Attafuah, represented the development agency.

At the UN House in Abuja, we formally signed the UNDP × OSSAP-WH partnership in support of RenewHER — The Presidential Women’s Health Transformation Initiative. A historic milestone: UNDP becomes RenewHER’s first official partner and lead coalition partner,” Steinacker said.

She said the partnership advances President Bola Tinubu’s vision for better health and wellbeing for Nigerians, complementing the broader health-sector reform agenda.

“Women’s health cannot be addressed in isolation. It is shaped by the social, economic and structural realities of women’s lives — and meaningful change requires us to address those intersections too,” Steinacker added.

The partnership will strengthen RenewHER’s core pillars, including policy and institutional frameworks, tech-driven innovation, sustainable funding and knowledge equity. Planned interventions include AI-powered diagnostics, geospatial mapping for maternal health, and a Digital Media and Advocacy Hub to close information gaps affecting women and girls.

RenewHER, launched at the State House Banquet Hall on 11 September 2025, treats women’s health as an economic strategy rather than a charity issue. It works closely with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Ministry of Women Affairs.

The initiative has received backing from the Nigeria Governors Spouses’ Forum and international partners, including UN Women.

No timeline has been announced for the rollout of specific UNDP-funded programmes under the partnership, but a joint implementation framework is expected to follow the signing.
