Veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie has revealed that despite being an Igbo man, his favourite politician is the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Speaking on the Isbae-U Show, Edochie praised Awolowo for his contributions to Nigeria’s development, particularly in education and broadcasting.
He highlighted Awolowo’s role in establishing television broadcasting in Nigeria in 1959, noting that television became available in the Eastern Region around 1960.
Edochie also pointed to Awolowo’s introduction of free primary education in the Western Region, describing it as one of the major achievements associated with his leadership.
Despite these contributions, Edochie noted that Awolowo never became Nigeria’s president. His comments have sparked conversations about Awolowo’s legacy and his impact on Nigeria’s political and educational history.
