The 2027 presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has vowed to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process and ensure that election rigging does not take place under his administration if elected president.

Obi made the commitment during an interview with Arise Television, where he outlined some of the priorities he would pursue if given the mandate to lead the country.

The former Anambra State governor said his administration would focus on restoring proper governance, fighting corruption and ensuring that political parties operate in accordance with democratic principles.

According to Obi, electoral manipulation would not be tolerated under his watch, stressing that political parties would be allowed to function properly while due process would be followed.

He also promised to tackle waste management and improve law and order, while prioritising critical sectors such as healthcare and education.

Obi said his administration would also work towards addressing Nigeria’s insecurity and divisions, noting that uniting the country and securing the lives and property of citizens would be among his major priorities.

He said his goal would be to implement policies capable of restoring honour and respect to Nigeria while ensuring that government resources are directed towards areas that directly improve the lives of citizens.

The former Anambra governor urged Nigerians to expect a government focused on doing things properly and addressing the structural challenges affecting the country.
