EFCC Arraigns One for Alleged N600,000 Fraud in Maiduguri

The Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, September 7, 2026, arraigned one Bilal Muhammad before Justice B.T Zanna of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri.

The defendant was arraigned on a two-count charge bordering on criminal misappropriation and obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N600,000.00 (Six Hundred Thousand Naira).

Count one of the charge reads: “That you, Bilal Muhammad CEO of GDF Homes Sale Enterprises Limited, sometimes in 2025 at Maiduguri, Borno State within the jurisdiction of this honorable court, did obtain the sum of N600,000.00 (Six Hundred Thousand Naira) under the guise of selling Keke Napep and thereby committed an offence contrary to 1 (1)(a) & (b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006 and punishable under 1 (3) of the same Act.”

The defendant pleaded “not guilty” to the charge when they were read to him, while prosecution counsel A.D Abdulmalik prayed for a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in EFCC facility

Justice Zanna thereafter adjourned the matter till September 22, 2026 for commencement of hearing and remand the defendant to the EFCC facility.

The defendant was arrested when he allegedly obtained the aggregate sum of N600,000.00 from a petitioner  purportedly meant for the purchase of a Tricycle (aka keke napep) and failed to deliver neither the Tricycle nor the money to the petitioner.
