In a related development, the state government has banned the use of phones during lectures in both private and public schools across the state by students.

According to the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Igbekele Ajibefun, the decision to ban the use of phones was made following the inability of many of the students to concentrate in class during lectures.

Ajibefun warned that any student caught would not only be dealt with, but the phone would be forfeited.

He announced that more emphasis was also placed on the Safe School Initiative that the committee had been set up by the governor, headed by the education commissioner and other security agencies.

On the issue of the striking university lecturers, the commissioner noted that the problem of the strike would be a thing of the past.

He disclosed that the communication gap between the government and the unions caused the delay in the actualisation of the payment so far.
