One of Nigeria’s Biggest financial institution, Zenith Bank Plc has issued a critical security advisory to customers, warning them to beware of social media fraudsters operating fake Facebook handles in its name.
The Tier-1 bank, which has consistently ranked as Nigeria’s most capitalized and most profitable bank with a robust asset base of over N30 trillion, said it would never redirect customers from Facebook to any WhatsApp number to resolve transaction challenges or respond to enquiries.
The warning comes amid a surge in cyber fraud where imposters create cloned pages with names like ‘zenithcustomerservice,’ ‘zenithliveassistant,’ and ‘zenithresponseseteam‘ to lure unsuspecting customers into revealing sensitive account details in comment sections
Zenith Bank urged customers not to expose themselves to risk by making sensitive account enquiries or seeking assistance for failed transactions in the comment section of its posts.
Instead, the bank, renowned for its heavy investment in cutting-edge cybersecurity, artificial intelligence-driven fraud monitoring, and world-class customer protection architecture, advised customers to always send a Direct Message (DM) to its verified handle, Zenith Bank Plc, for all sensitive account enquiries or transaction challenges.
In a statement titled “Beware of Social Media Fraudsters,” the bank said, “Zenith Bank would never redirect you from Facebook to any WhatsApp number to resolve any challenges or respond to enquiries.
“Please do not expose yourself to fake Facebook handles impersonating Zenith Bank by making sensitive account enquiries or seeking assistance for transaction challenges in the comment section of our posts.
“Send a direct message (DM) to Zenith Bank Plc for all sensitive account enquiries or transaction challenges,” the bank warned.
This alert, according to the bank, is another demonstration of Zenith Bank’s customer-first philosophy. Further, the bank emphasized that “Customers are advised to disregard any Facebook comment asking them to contact a WhatsApp number for quick resolution and report such fake pages immediately.”
