The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Bunkure, has unveiled a four-point agenda to transform the institution into a world-class, digital-ready university.
Bunkure unveiled the agenda on Thursday in Zaria while marking the first anniversary of his assumption of office as the substantive vice-chancellor of the university.
themomentng reports that Bunkure assumed office on Sept. 17, 2025, following the transition of the former Federal College of Education (FCE), Zaria, to a university.
Speaking at the anniversary, Bunkure said the administration would consolidate digital transformation, deepen strategic partnerships, promote research and innovation, and strengthen learner-centered education.
“Our vision in the coming years is clear: to build a world-class University of Education that is digital-ready, learner-centred, research-driven, and community-impactful,” he said.
The vice-chancellor said the university would accelerate the full digitalisation of its academic and administrative systems through the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies.
He said the initiative was aimed at equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills required to compete effectively in an increasingly technology-driven global environment.
Bunkure also said FUE Zaria would deepen collaboration under the Quadruple Helix Model, bringing together government, academia, industry and the community to drive sustainable development.
According to him, the university will prioritise research, entrepreneurship and teacher professionalism to position FUE Zaria as a leading institution for teacher education in Nigeria and beyond.
Reviewing the administration’s achievements in the past one year, Bunkure said the university had strengthened academic programmes, improved staff welfare and capacity building, upgraded teaching facilities and hosted major academic conferences.
He said the initiatives had contributed to strengthening the university’s academic profile and increasing its visibility within Nigeria’s higher education landscape.
Bunkure acknowledged funding constraints and infrastructural deficits as some of the challenges confronting the institution, but said the administration was addressing them as part of its drive for sustainable growth.
He expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), the Governing Council, staff unions, students and the Zazzau Emirate for their support during his first year in office.
The vice-chancellor called for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to achieve the administration’s vision of building “the FUE Zaria of our dreams.”
