Former Miss Universe Jamaica Gabrielle Henry has filed a lawsuit against the Miss Universe Organization and related companies over the serious injuries she suffered after falling through an opening on stage during the 2025 competition.
Henry, an ophthalmology resident, said the fall left her with a brain bleed as well as facial and back injuries. She said she lost consciousness and later woke in hospital, where she was admitted to intensive care and placed under neurological monitoring.
The incident happened as Henry walked across the stage in an orange gown during the pageant. She said she was following the directions given during rehearsals when she turned and fell through an opening in the stage.
Henry said she does not believe she tripped and argues that the accident could have been prevented if adequate safety measures had been in place around the opening.
Her lawsuit, filed on September 21, names the Miss Universe Organization and its parent companies, JKN Legacy Inc. and Legacy Holding Group USA. The claims include negligence, negligent hiring, retention and supervision, as well as negligent and intentional infliction of emotional distress.
Henry said the organisation initially supported her while she was receiving treatment in Thailand, but that communication became limited after she returned to Jamaica. She also said she continues to face medical expenses and ongoing pain linked to the injuries.
The Miss Universe Organization said Henry’s health and well-being had remained a priority, but added that it had not yet received the lawsuit and could not comment on claims it had not reviewed. The organisation also said it had not received any request or claim for additional medical expenses.
Henry said the fall has affected both her physical recovery and her medical career, but added that she remains focused on healing and continuing with her life.
