The recent Supreme Court Judgement which nullified the participation of a candidate in two different political party primaries in the same election cycle has affected the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurideen Adeleke in respect of the just concluded 2026 Governorship Election in the State.
The leading Political parties, Accord Party as ruling party and All Progressive Congress (APC) as major opposition party in the State,have begun to weigh the options before them on the next line of action since the apex Court of the land delivered its landmark judgement in the case of ZLP vs INEC .
The apex court held that some sections of the Electoral Act 2026 were not inconsistent with the 1999 Constitution by awarding N2 million costs against the Zenith Labour Party ( ZLP), recalling that the 2026 Electoral act were used to conduct the 2026 Osun Governorship Election by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Governor Ademola Adeleke participated in two(2) different political party primaries ahead of 2026 Governorship Election and two(2) different Certificates of Return were issued to him and it seems Governor Adeleke is automatically disqualified in the face of the law.
Meanwhile,the members and supporters of the opposition All Progressive Congress (APC) have concluded arrangements to embark on a peaceful protest to the State Secretariat of the party in Osogbo and across the Local Government party offices in the State simultaneously, to pressure the party leadership to rescind their stance on challenging the victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke before the Election Petition Tribunal.
They believe that the window of opportunity for the party to challenge the victory of Governor Adeleke before the Election Tribunal is still alive with the new development through the recent Supreme Court Judgement.
It would be recalled that the opposition political party (APC) had earlier filled a petition before the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal to challenge the acclaimed victory of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the August 15,2026 Governorship Election.
But the party leadership later directed the Counsel to file an application of withdrawal before the Tribunal for reasons best known to them. The Tribunal is yet to determine the said application till the time of filing this report.
According to the source: “The APC still have a window of opportunity to bring back their Petition and reclaim their lost mandate by stopping the withdrawal application before the Tribunal.”
Although, the investigation revealed that the party faithfuls are yet to conclude on the date of the protest, it has been also learnt that the party leadership are yet to make any move on the subject matter.
Investigations further reveal that the development has been giving sleepless nights to both the camps of Governor Ademola Adeleke and that of Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO) of the All Progressive Congress APC in the last Osun governorship election.
