Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced that construction of the over $7 billion Gateway Deep Sea Port and Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Ogun Waterside will commence in November.
Abiodun disclosed this in a post on X on Monday, saying the project would move into the construction phase immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony.
“We are pleased to announce that construction of the over $7 billion Gateway Deep Sea Port and Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Ogun Waterside will commence in November, immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony,” the governor said.
He said the development followed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with DP World MEA FZE in Paris, witnessed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“Following the signing of the MoU with DP World MEA FZE in Paris, witnessed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, we are moving decisively from planning to implementation,” Abiodun stated.
According to the governor, the project is expected to be substantially completed within two and a half years.
Abiodun said the deep sea port would help unlock Ogun State’s maritime and economic potential while attracting investments and creating employment opportunities.
“This transformational project will unlock the enormous maritime and economic potential of Ogun State, attract major investments, create jobs and position Ogun Waterside and our State as a major maritime hub in West Africa,” he said.
The Commissioner called on the people of Kebbi State to continue to cooperate fully with security agencies by promptly providing credible and useful information on the activities, locations and movements of bandits, insurgents and other criminal elements.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant against individuals who may provide information or other forms of support to criminals, stressing that such activities undermine the collective efforts to maintain peace and security.
