The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the Anambra State Government of attacking its 2027 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, because of his growing political support in the state.

The party also expressed confidence that it would record a strong performance in Anambra during the 2027 election.

In a statement on Monday, the NDC Director of New Media and Strategic Communications, Theo Abu Agada, said the party believes the administration of Governor Charles Soludo sees Obi and the NDC as a political threat.

Agada was responding to an earlier statement from the Anambra State Government, which urged supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) not to vote for Obi and the NDC.

According to the NDC official, criticism of Obi by the state government amounts to an attempt to discredit the former Anambra governor rather than challenge his record in office.

“It is now clear, even to the blind, that the Anambra State Government is threatened by the growing popularity of our presidential candidate, H.E. Peter Obi, and the NDC in Anambra State and beyond.

“I understand this mad obsession. The NDC is going to win big in Anambra, and there is nothing Soludo and his minions in APGA can do about it.

“Since they cannot challenge. Peter Obi on governance records, they have resorted to cheap blackmail,” he wrote.

The exchange followed a message from the state government warning APGA supporters against backing Obi in the presidential election.

The government described support for Obi and the NDC as a betrayal of APGA and argued that such a decision could weaken the party in its traditional stronghold.

“A BETRAYAL ALERT FOR NDI ANAMBRA

“Do not be deceived by a man who abandoned his own house.

“Ndi APGA, defend your home. Resist the NDC,” the state government warned.

It further accused Obi of working against APGA after leaving the party.

“Since 2014, Obi has had one mission: to destroy the party that made him. In 2025, while President Tinubu stood with APGA, Obi backed opposition to bury us.

“Do not be deceived by a man who abandoned his own house. Anambra is APGA. Ndi APGA, defend your home. Resist the NDC,” it added.
