The Nigerian Law Society (NLS) and the Ghana Law Society (GLS) on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish the Pan-African Institute for Continuing Legal Education (PAICLE).
This is contained in a statement issued by Dr. Tonye-Clinton Jaja, the Executive Director, NLS, on Tuesday in Abuja.
The agreement, he said is aimed at strengthening continuing legal education and professional development among lawyers across Africa.
Jaja, said the two professional bodies agreed to collaborate in designing and delivering continuing legal education programmes through both physical and virtual platforms.
Jaja said the proposed institute would have its headquarters in Accra, Ghana, adding that the initiative would provide a platform for lawyers to improve their professional knowledge and skills.
He said he signed the agreement on behalf of the NLS through his representative, Rev. Apaerala Perey.
On the Ghanaian side, the MoU was signed by the President of the Ghana Law Society, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, who is also a member of the Ghanaian Parliament.
Jaja said GLS had promised to send a seven-member delegation to attend the annual general conference of the Nigerian Law Society-NLS on Nov. 4 and Nov. 5.
