Mrs Ginika Tor, former federal commissioner representing Enugu State at the Federal Character Commission (FCC), has received the African Female Personality of the Year Award at the 15th Democracy Heroes Awards Africa 2026.
The Democracy Heroes Awards Africa is organised by Face of Democracy Nigeria Projects (FDN Projects) to celebrate Africans who have distinguished themselves through their contributions to democratic development across the continent.
The 2026 edition, which was held Friday night in Abuja, brought together political leaders, business executives, entrepreneurs, entertainers, civil society actors, and other stakeholders.
The event was organised to celebrate individuals contribution to Africa’s democratic journey and development.
Governors Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger, Agbu Kefas of Taraba and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara were among prominent Nigerians honoured at the event, themed “Elevate.”
The governors and other distinguished leaders were recognized for their contributions to good governance and efforts toward improving citizens’ lives through impactful policies and development projects.
Speaking with NAN on the sidelines of the event, Tor expressed gratitude for the recognition, describing it as a call to greater service, responsibility and commitment to national development.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive the African Female Personality of the Year Award at the Democracy Heroes Awards Africa 2026.
“This award is a call to do more, serve better and inspire. It is a call to greater service, responsibility and commitment to the advancement of our society,” she said.
Tor appreciated the organisers for recognising the importance of leadership, service and women’s contributions to national development.
“I remain grateful to President Bola Tinubu for the confidence reposed in me and for the opportunity to continue contributing to national development.
“This honour belongs to all of us who believe in a better Nigeria and a stronger Africa,” she added.
Earlier, the Chief Operating Officer of the Democracy Heroes Awards, Motunrayo Ajagbonna, also known as Fajag, said the awards which are now in their 15th edition, had continued to recognise political leaders and other distinguished individuals for initiatives that strengthen democratic values and improve service delivery.
Ajagbonna said the organisation would sustain its efforts to recognise and encourage individuals who had distinguished themselves through meaningful contributions to society and service to the people.
He congratulated the award recipients and reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to promoting excellence in public service.
The event featured the presentation of awards, cultural performances celebrating Nigeria’s democratic journey, music, dance and other activities.
