The Federal Government has approved an increase in the feeding budget for members of the National Youth Service Corps during their orientation course, the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, has said.

Nafiu disclosed this while interacting with members of the 2026 Batch C Stream One at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Obubra, Cross River State.

He said the Budget Office had been informed of the upward adjustment, adding that implementation was expected to begin in 2027.

The NYSC chief urged corps members to manage their finances responsibly, avoid extravagant spending and cultivate the habit of saving.

He also commended Nigerian youths for their resilience and commitment to national service.

On safety, Nafiu advised corps members to avoid travelling after 6pm and continue their journeys the following day where necessary.

He warned them against sleeping in public places or gathering in groups at filling stations, saying such practices could make them vulnerable.

“Proceed to military installations, police stations or DSS offices, and contact the NYSC hotline,” he advised.

Nafiu also pledged to intensify engagement with relevant stakeholders to establish and rehabilitate infrastructure at the Obubra orientation camp.

He encouraged the corps members to acquire practical skills that could improve their employment prospects and provide additional sources of income after their service year.

He cited cosmetology, traditional hairstyling and other vocational skills as areas they could explore.

Earlier, the NYSC Cross River State Coordinator, Mrs Adejoke Oyenuga, described the Director-General’s visit as a demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of corps members.

Oyenuga said 1,064 corps members had been registered at the camp, adding that they had successfully adapted to the structured orientation programme.
