Mr Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), held a closed-door meeting with Gov. Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers and other critical stakeholders in the state ahead of 2027 general elections.
The meeting was held on Sunday at the governor’s private residence in Port Harcourt.
Wike, accompanied by key stakeholders of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers, arrived Funara’s residence at 4:30 p.m.
While an official communique on the outcome of the meeting is yet to be released, Mr Lere Olayinka, the senior special assistant to the minister on public communications and social media, said that the discussion centered on strategic alignments ahead of the 2027 polls.
Olayinka said that the meeting signaled a potential realignment towards supporting the re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu and other candidates under the Rainbow Coalition in 2027.
He explained that the high-level engagement took place against the backdrop of shifting political interests in Rivers, where both Wike and Fubara command significant influence.
Olayinka, who recalled that a similar engagement held on Oct. 7, stressed that the Sunday evening meeting was a sustained push for consensus among major political players in the state.
“The meeting is an offshoot of Wike’s recent public declaration of support for President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
“It is a layer of national significance to the state-level consultations,” he said.
themomentng reports that Wike, appointed by Tinubu to coordinate his re-election campaign in Rivers and the FCT, had commenced engagement with stakeholders towards mobilising massive support for the president ahead of 2027.
