Popular cleric Prophet Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, popularly known as Odumeje, has accused the Nigerian government of doing significant damage to the Igbo people, expressing concern over what he described as the lack of major infrastructure in the South East compared to other regions.
The cleric questioned the distribution of key infrastructure projects across the country, citing international airports, embassies and seaports as examples of facilities he believes have not been adequately provided for the South East.
“Business people are Igbo people. Nigeria has done a lot of damage to Igbo people,” Odumeje said.
He also questioned the reported plan to establish another seaport in Ogun State, arguing that the Igbo people are widely known for their entrepreneurial activities and commercial contributions to the Nigerian economy.
“Seaport was signed for Lagos. The seaport signed by the federal government. Even I think there’s a new one that the new government is signing now, Ogun State. Why are they signing it in Ogun State? Ogun State, are they business people?” he asked.
Odumeje further called on the older generation to reflect on their responsibilities towards the future of their children, stressing the importance of speaking up for their rights and demanding development for their communities.
“We are fathers. We are no more boys, and we can’t live here forever, and our children will question us: What have we done for their rights?” he said.
The cleric also expressed concern that other parts of the country have access to major facilities, including international airports and embassies, while questioning the South East’s access to comparable infrastructure.
