Uche Secondus, national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says he will not resign his position.

Secondus said this on Monday in a terse statement by Ike Abonyi, his media aide.

The PDP is embroiled in a leadership crisis, which has resulted in some stakeholders leaving the opposition party.

TheCable had reported that some members of the PDP national working committee (NWC) threatened to resign if the leadership crisis is not resolved soon.

The party’s caucus in the house of representatives had asked Secondus to resign his position “immediately”.

According to a statement issued on Sunday and jointly signed by Kingsley Chinda and Chukwuka Onyema, PDP caucus leader and deputy leader respectively, the resolution was reached on Saturday at an online meeting.

The lawmakers accused Secondus of “lax and bedroom managerial attitude” which has resulted in “mass exit of party members”.

But Secondus said he has done nothing wrong to warrant his resignation.

He asked, “those tiny minority calling for his resignation” to “come clean” and tell party members across the country his offence.

He said he will remain focused and committed to the ideals of the party “which he swore to protect and defend upon his election to lead this great party 44 months ago”.

Secondus on Wednesday alleged that a “strong chieftain” is behind the plot to remove him.

The board of trustees (BoT) of the PDP last Thursday set up a committee that includes governors and former ministers, to resolve the crisis.
