The Nigeria Police Force Special Investigation on DCP Abba Kyari says it has yet to submit its report.
The NPF made this known via its verified Facebook page on Tuesday night.
Signed by the Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, DCP Frank Mba, the post was titled, ‘NPF SPECIAL INVESTIGATION PANEL ON DCP ABBA KYARI YET TO SUBMIT REPORT,’ and states, “The Nigeria Police Force wishes to inform the general public that the probe into the alleged indictment of DCP Abba Kyari by the FBI, being conducted by the NPF Special Investigation Panel (SIP), is still ongoing.
“Members of the public are enjoined to note that the panel has not submitted its report to the Inspector General of Police, as being wrongly reported in some news outlet and online platforms.
“The Force hereby reassures the public that the outcome of investigations by the probe panel would be communicated accordingly upon conclusion of the investigations.”
FBI’s warrant of arrest
Late last month, the United States Attorney’s Office at the Central District of California had ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation to arrest DCP Abba Kyari. He has since been suspended from office, pending the outcome of the Force investigation.
DCP Kyari is being wanted for his alleged role in a $1m scam allegedly perpetrated by suspect Ramon Abbas, aka Hushpuppi, and four others.
The court’s Director of Media Relations, Thom Mrozek, confirmed this to our correspondent in an email inquiry.
“A U.S. Magistrate Judge has issued arrest warrants for the defendants in the case, including Mr. Kyari. This is standard operating procedure in nearly all of the criminal cases filed by this office,” Mrozek stated.
Also on Thursday, Force Public Relations Officer at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, CP Frank Mba, confirmed that the Nigeria Police Force had also received “allegation and indictment processes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation” against Mr. Kyari.
The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has since ordered an internal review of the allegations.
Mba, in a Press statement on Thursday stated, “Sequel to the receipt of allegation and indictment processes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) against one of the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, DCP Abba Kyari, the Inspector General of Police IGP Usman Alkali Baba psc (+), NPM, fdc has ordered an internal review of the allegations.
“The Nigeria Police Force reaffirms its commitment to the pursuit of justice and the strengthening of its professional relationship with the FBI and other international partners.
“Further developments on this case will be communicated to members of the public accordingly.”
Earlier reports says the court alleged that Hushpuppi used Kyari to arrest and jail a “co-conspirator,” Chibuzo Vincent, after the latter threatened to expose an alleged $1m fraud committed against a Qatari businessman.
Kyari, who is popularly known as ‘super cop,’ had received rapid promotions and a commendation from the National Assembly for his exploits in crime-fighting. He has since denied the allegations.
