“Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State is winning the presidential race tonight, he will not step down from the APC presidential primaries because he has the best chance to win the race”.

Those were the words of the governor’s spokesperson, Mrs Yemi Kolapo, who spoke against the background of the failure of the Southwest aspirants to reach a consensus.

Media reports say, at the end of another round of meeting in the afternoon, the aspirants failed to reach a consensus.

Earlier, the Progressives Governors Forum had recommended five aspirants to the president for his approval.

Governor Bello who was not part of the arrangement has insisted on forging ahead outside that arrangement because he has the youth and the women behind him.

Kolapo, while speaking at the ongoing convention said Bello is in the race to win.

“You can understand his confidence, it is based on his chances. They held another meeting and it was inconclusive and with this development you can see that with the Southwest divided, Governor Bello has a very good chance to emerge as the presidential candidate of the APC. So, he is not stepping down,” she said.
