EFCC arrests Adewumi Omotayo over N1.7bn fraud, 33 ‘illegal’ properties

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Mr. Adewumi Joseph Omotayo, a director of Finance and Account in the Federal Ministry of Power over alleged financial crimes hovering around two billion naira, illegal acquisition of 33 luxury home and for making payments for contracts that were never executed.

Trojan reports that Mr Omotayo who is currently in the custody of the EFCC is facing interrogation by officials of the commission.

Sources revealed that Mr Omotayo has been making millions of naira payments into an account for non existing Mambila Power Project.

“Mr Omotayo has been found making payment of several millions for construction of non-existent road to Mambila project site, as well as owing a car stand in the name of his wife in Garki area of Abuja.

“He is also responsible for the payment of various huge sum of money paid into individuals accounts of his cronies.

“Infact, he was posted out from the Ministry several months ago by the office of the Accountant General of the Federation, but vehemently refused to leave the Ministry of Power for fraudulent reasons,” the source said.

This newspaper learnt that items that have been recovered from Mr Omotayo by the EFCC include tons of golds, millions of naira and other valuables that were acquired through financial crime.

When contacted for verification, the EFCC image maker, Mr Wilson Uwujaren confirmed that Mr Omotayo is in their custody but could not give detail reasons for his arrest.

“I’m aware that Mr Adewumi Joseph Omotayo is in our custody but I’m yet to ascertain the reasons for his detention”, Mr Uwujaren said.
