The eighth season of Nigeria’s most prestigious reality TV singing competition, Nigerian Idol, premiered on April 23, 2023, with clips from the auditions as D’banj, Simi, and Obi Asika returned as judges for the season alongside beloved host IK Osakioduwa.
The auditions have been such a hit with viewers.
Speaking of viewers, here are five different types of audiences for the hit show: Catch your sub!
The wannabe contestants
“I can do better than that,” said almost everyone watching Nigerian Idol. This group believes they deserve a golden ticket as they begrudgingly watch the show. When you ask them if they made up part of the over 10,000 auditioners, you’ll be surprised to hear they weren’t.
Here comes the fashion police
Hmm hmmm, Joan Rivers of Nigerian Idol! This group believes everyone should be dressed spectacularly; they’re constantly commenting and critiquing the looks. We understand, but it’s not the MET Gala.
The Tweeters
Not all heroes wear capes; this applies to the ‘tweeters’ of the show. They keep a constant commentary and an influx of entertaining memes and clips; if you’re unavailable to watch the show, head to the timeline for these gems.
The sing-alongs
Nigerian Idol is not karaoke, but we still love a good sing-along. Our music lovers are always looking for familiar jams to sing along to, and they won’t apologise for it.
People looking for premium entertainment
The religious followers of the show are there for the contestants’ journey to stardom and everything in between. They hang on to the judges’ every comment and criticism; they cheer for their favourites, boo threats to them, and have a lot of fun along the way! This is how every viewer should be!
If you aren’t already a faithful viewer of Nigerian Idol, remember that it broadcasts on all Africa Magic Channels – Showcase, Urban, and Family from Sunday, April 23, 2023. The excitement will reach new heights with a dedicated Nigerian Idol pop-up channel (DStv ch. 199) where fans can enjoy exclusive “behind-the-stage” conversations and catch up on all the auditions.
