The maiden edition of 1XBET Cup kicked of with lots of fun and excitement on Tuesday at the Nitel mini Stadium, Oshodi venue of the DBI Conference of community based tournament.
The first match of the championship saw Capital Avalanche taking on Cheche Stars in Group A.
They played out a 1-1 draw. While in the second match of the group, Fackson football club thrashed Soccer Touch FC by 3goals to 1to lead the log in the group.
Captain of Cheche Stars FC, Alex Kanu, who scored the equalising goal for Cheche Stars, expressed his gratitude to 1XBET, for sponsoring the competition.
Adding that it would help to keep non-league players busy, as well as, giving them the opportunity to expose their talents. The young midfield dynamo, whose dad Monday Kanu, was a former Nigeria international player who played for Bendel Insurance and Julius Berger FC in his playing days.
Speaking at the venue, Engineer Waidi Akanni who is the Coordinator and Consultant for the 1XBET Cup, express his happiness that the competition kicks off on a good note.
Akanni who is a former Nigeria International stated that there are plans by the organisers and the sponsors to bring more exciting moments to the participating teams and fans, as the competition progress.
Hostities continued with matches played in group B at the same venue.
It began with G-Innovation football club and Bariga FC playing out a 2-2 draw in a game which could well be described as a game of two halves.
G-Innovation led 2-0 in the first half with goals scored by Pascal Anuforo and Henry David in the 4th and 11th minutes respectively. A rejuvenated Bariga FC took the game by the scruffs of the neck to level up 2-2 in the second half through goals Timothy Kolawole and Nduka David in the 43rd and 50th minutes of the game.
The second game of group B played between Emiloju football club and Ifako football club was a spirited displays by the two youthful sides.
With neither side, giving ground to the other in an end to end actions, yet, it couldn’t produce a winner it ended goalless draw.
Matches in DBI Conference continue today in the 1XBET Cup championship at the same venue with Group A matches that will see Cheche Stars football club taking on Soccer Touch FC while Capital Avalanche FC confronts Fackson FC.
The conference will, once again, come alive on Friday as Bariga FC test their might against Emiloju FC, while G. innovation dares Ifako FC in Group B.
