The night commenced with an insightful welcome note by John Ugbe, the CEO of West Africa, MultiChoice about the implications of the new Showmax on entertainment in Africa.

“Today, we mark a historic milestone and a new era of streaming supremacy. With MultiChoice’s commitment to elevating African storytelling and the strategic partnership with Comcast’s NBCUniversal and Sky, the new Showmax is poised to revolutionize the streaming landscape in Africa.”

“At the heart of it, the new Showmax focuses on African content, showcasing diverse narratives and our rich cultural heritage. With exclusive African originals and collaborations with local talent, we aim to amplify African voices across Africa, ensuring that we nurture talent, promote diversity and drive industry innovation,” he said.

In his supporting remarks, General Manager of Showmax Nigeria, Opeoluwa Filani, highlighted the app’s capabilities saying:

“The New Showmax is a best-in-class offering in effortless viewing that can withstand rigorous concurrent streaming”.

“What excites us most is how we at Showmax are able to live out our purpose as a brand, where we are making it effortless and affordable to connect you to the content that you love,” he added.

While the star of the evening was the new Showmax, the exclusive screening of Dead Serious was not far behind. With its blend of talented actors, hilarious moments, and a didactic turn, the film took the esteemed guests on a delightful rollercoaster ride.

Stars who got a firsthand screening of the rom com included Folu Storms, Enado Odigie, Kalu Ikeagwu, Uti Nwachukwu, Noble Igwe, Hero Daniels, Taaooma, and ex-Big Brother stars Beauty Tukura, Apet Modella and Miracle OP. Also present at the event were cast from Showmax Nigeria originals including Wura, Flawsome, AGU, Cheta M and The Real Housewives of Lagos and Abuja.

Showmax’s rebranding promises a pocket-friendly and immersive entertainment experience. At the heart of the new offering is the world’s first stand-alone Premier League plan for mobile, Showmax Premier League, as well as two more Showmax plans: Showmax Entertainment Mobile and Showmax Entertainment plan.

Existing Showmax customers have been successfully migrated to the new app, with the former to be phased out later this February.
