Ayodeji Fakayode, an Ibadan-based engineer, is still contending with Opay for the reversal of his N70,000, which was withheld by the bank on June 19.

He said he made a transfer of N70,000 from his OPay account to his account with Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) but despite showing ‘successful’, the transaction never went through.

Fakayode noticed this oddity minutes after sending the money but waited for some time for the transferred funds to reflect on his GT Bank account.

He said the first thing he did after realising the error was send a message to OPay before visiting a GT Bank branch to complain about the same matter, but this has not changed the situation for the better.

“At first, OPay said they would confirm from GT Bank, while GT Bank said they didn’t receive such funds. But I’m not sure of what the matter is, as it’s now almost a month and my money has been hanging,” Fakayode told FIJ.

The frustrated engineer said that in his many visits to GT Bank to get the matter resolved, he had to upgrade his account but the bank’s claim remained firm.

“I printed my statement of account to confirm if nothing was amiss, yet there was no sign of the money. OPay keeps contending that the transaction was successful, but it wasn’t. They need to do something because I need my money back,” he said.

When contacted Adeyemi Adekunle, OPay’s spokesman, for comments on the matter, he asked this reporter to exercise patience. A message was also sent to OPay but got no response.
