Thirty-six out of the 40 members of the Lagos House of Assembly have resolved to strongly support Speaker Mojisola Lasbat Meranda.
This decision by the 36 members, who convened at the assembly garden on Thursday afternoon, followed the forceful takeover of the speaker’s office by the ousted Obasa.
The lawmakers, who had previously passed a vote of confidence in Meranda on February 17, boldly stood by their earlier decision, disregarding any potential consequences.
A lawmaker, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that he and his colleagues were determined to ensure that their decision to remove Obasa remains in place.
“He was not elected speaker from his constituency. We all endured his master-slave relationship for close to 10 years. Now, we have said enough is enough and we are not looking back,” the lawmaker explained.
Meanwhile, two out of the other 39 lawmakers, Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as Osmak, representing Mushin Constituency 1, and Noheem Adams, representing Mushin Constituency II, were seen accompanying Obasa to the complex.
At the time of this report, Obasa’s supporters had forcibly opened the doors to the Speaker’s office, with heavily built men stationed at strategic locations throughout the complex.
Additionally, some armed individuals who accompanied Obasa to the complex were observed making threatening statements, declaring their intent to take control of all the offices in the building.
The access roads to the complex have been overtaken by individuals suspected to be Obasa’s loyalists, who arrived at the scene in unmarked Kombi buses.
Motorists have been forced to use alternative routes as all entrances to the complex have been blocked.
