France and Germany have both strongly backed the Gaza ceasefire plan that has been agreed to, in spirit, by Israel and Hamas, and will finally see an end to Israeli military operations in Gaza.
French President, Emmanuel Macron, said that a ceasefire in Gaza and the agreement to release of hostages held by Hamas are “within reach” after the militant group confirmed its readiness for peace talks.
“The release of all hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza are within reach!” Macron wrote on X, joining a chorus of hopeful reactions from around the world to the Palestinian Islamist militant group’s response to US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, too said that “peace in Gaza and the release of the hostages are within reach.”
Merz’s post on X said Trump’s plan represents “the best chance for peace” in the conflict and that Germany “fully supports” Trump’s “call upon both sides.”
Trump had earlier warned Israel’s armed forces and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu against their plan to annex the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
Israel has faced mounting pressure to stop its offensive in the Palestinian territory, with a majority of the member states of the UN General Assembly walking off when Netanyahu took to the podium to address the general assembly.
The move came after several nations accepted the Palestinian state and advocated for the establishment of the two-state solution for lasting peace.
The moment served as the lowest point in Netanyahu’s diplomatic career, as Israel used to be one of the most-favoured nations in the West.
However, Israeli citizens have often complained about wrongful treatment in foreign countries over their war, which has now killed 66,300 people in less than two years.
