In a tragic incident that has plunged residents of Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State into mourning, a Dangote Cement truck crushed five people to death at the Alapoka axis of the Papalanto–Ilaro Road.

The incident was confirmed by the spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, who stated that the accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

According to Akinbiyi, the crash happened when the truck “lost its brakes and rammed into a tricycle conveying the five victims.”

He identified the vehicles involved as “an unregistered tricycle and a Dangote truck with the number plate GRZ 767 XA.”

The TRACE spokesperson added that upon receiving the report, “the Acting TRACE Head, Adedayo Omonayajo, and the Ilaro Divisional Commander, Salako Idowu, led a rescue team to the scene.”

It was gathered that the officials were nearly attacked by angry residents before the intervention of the Amotekun Corps restored calm.

“The presumed dead were taken to the morgue by Federal Road Safety Corps officials,” Akinbiyi added.

The incident occurred just weeks after two major accidents involving Dangote trucks in Kogi and Edo States. In Kogi State, one of the company’s trucks crushed the two legs of a young lady, Ruth Otabor, leading to her death. Similarly, in Auchi, Edo State, another Dangote truck was involved in a fatal crash that claimed the lives of about three people after it suffered brake failure and rammed into a white Mercedes-Benz GLK along the Benin–Okene Expressway.
