The University of Lagos (UNILAG) on Thursday honoured 44 students and staff for exceptional service as part of the 2025 International Customer Service Week celebration.

The event, held at the Tayo Aderonokun Lecture Theatre, Akoka, was organised by the university’s Quality Assurance and SERVICOM Directorate.

Director of the unit, Prof. Olufemi Saibu, congratulated the awardees for their outstanding performance and dedication to efficient service delivery within the institution.

Saibu described the week as a reminder of the dignity of service and the transformative power of every interaction within the university community.

He said the theme, ‘Mission: Possible’, was both a declaration and a challenge, reaffirming UNILAG’s commitment to collaboration, innovation, and a stronger service culture.

“Excellence in service is not a distant aspiration; it is our daily responsibility,” Saibu said, urging all members of the university to uphold high standards.

He noted that the awardees were recognised for improvements in student learning facilities, examination readiness, timely result submission, and compliance with academic protocols.

According to him, non-academic staff were celebrated for consistent dedication, while academic administrators were honoured for selfless leadership and efficient management.

Saibu also praised technologists for innovations in research support and infrastructure development, which strengthened UNILAG’s academic reputation and accreditation processes.

He added that students were recognised for top essays on service delivery, leadership, discipline, and humanitarian contributions within the university community.

“Our external partners are also being acknowledged for their strategic support in institutional development, campus safety, and student engagement,” he said.

Chairman of the occasion, Dr Jani Ibrahim, described the event as a call to action for national competitiveness through service excellence.

Ibrahim, who is President of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, urged Nigerians to embrace a service-driven mindset.

He said service consciousness was crucial to achieving President Bola Tinubu’s vision of building a $1 trillion economy for Nigeria by 2030.

“We must all put our hands on the table to make it happen. The economy needs performance, perception, and people,” Ibrahim stated.

Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, urged students and staff to remain focused and contribute meaningfully to the university and Nigeria’s progress.

Sharing her personal experiences, she advised everyone to embrace challenges, develop solutions, and invest in self-improvement to advance their roles.

“May we all be great solution providers with the belief that nothing is impossible,” she said.

Awards were presented in categories such as best faculty, excellence in service delivery, campus security response, and student perception of service quality.
