He, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 7, at about 11.00 a.m., at Iyana-Era Bus Stop, Ijanikin, Lagos.

Ekpo alleged that the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N820,000 from one Cyriacus Nwabueze, the complainant, under the pretence of selling a Suzuki Mini-bus with registration number LND 506 YJ to him.

Ekpo said the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by collecting the bus back from the complainant after collecting the money from him.

He said the defendant converted the money to his own use without the consent of the complaint.

“The defendant was arrested and handed over to police for prosecution.

“The offences contravened Sections 314, 168 and 287 of the Criminal Lagos, 2015,” he said.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum N500,000 with two sureties in the like sum.

Layeni said one of the sureties must be a community leader.

He adjourned the case until Nov. 22, for mention.
