President Bola Tinubu has congratulated former First Lady, Chief Margaret Shonekan, on her 84th birthday, describing her as a model of humility and public service.
The congratulatory message is contained in a statement issued by Presidential Spokesperson, Mr Bayo Onanuga, on Monday in Abuja.
Tinubu celebrated the wife of the late Head of the Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan, noting her enduring legacy of kindness and national service.
He said Mrs Shonekan devoted her career to strengthening public institutions, promoting effective service delivery, educational assessment, academic excellence, and human resource development.
She began her career as a Trainee Assistant Registrar at WAEC in 1965, rose to Deputy Registrar, and served as Federal Civil Service Commissioner from 1986 to 1994.
She later became Head of WAEC Nigeria between 1995 and 2000. Tinubu commended her patriotism and commitment to education in Nigeria.
He recalled her return to WAEC in 1994 after serving as Nigeria’s First Lady for three months. The President prayed for her continued health and sound mind.
