The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken another turn as one of the factions has written an official letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on a change of leadership in the party.

The letter, dated 3rd November, 2025 and signed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, informed INEC of the emergence of the Vice Chairman (North Central) of the party, Abdulrahman Mohammed, as the new PDP acting National Chairman.

The letter claimed that the decision to appoint Mohammed as the PDP acting National Chairman was taken at a National Working Committee (NWC) of the party held on Saturday, 1st November.

It added that the appointment is in accordance with the party’s constitution and requested INEC to recognize the leadership of Mohammed.

Naija News recalls that a fresh crisis engulfed the PDP last Friday when Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, stopped the party from going ahead with its planned national convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Three PDP members, Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP chairman), Amah Nnanna (Abia PDP chairman), and Turnah George (South-South PDP Secretary) had filed a suit, alleging a breach of the party’s constitution in the convention’s preparation and asked the court to stop the PDP from proceeding with the planned convention.

As part of its reaction to the court ruling, the PDP announced the suspension of senior members of the National Working Committee (NWC) who are seen as allies to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

However, the faction also announced the suspension of the PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and five other members of the National Working Committee, plunging the PDP into deeper crisis.

On Monday, chaos erupted at Wadata Plaza, the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as supporters of the faction loyal to Mohammed Abdulrahman, stormed the premises in protest.

The protesters, who chanted solidarity songs and waved placards, called for the immediate removal of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Acting National Chairman Umar Damagum.

They accused the Damagum-led leadership of mismanaging the affairs of the party and vowed to reclaim the secretariat on behalf of the Abdulrahman-led faction.

Mohammed later took over at the PDP mini office in Wuse District, Abuja, where he unveiled his leadership agenda titled “A New Dawn.”
