Former Governor of Cross River and Sen. Ben Ayade has disclosed that he foresaw Nigeria’s current political direction years before it unfolded.

Ayade, who stated this in an interview with newsmen in Calabar on Saturday said his early decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was guided by foresight and strategic analysis.

“I am like the Godot who saw tomorrow, The crystal ball was clear, I anticipated a shift in Nigeria’s political dynamics.

Ayade, who represented Cross River North, between 2011 and 2015, said his move from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC was deliberate and rooted in his conviction that the ruling party would shape Nigeria’s future.

According to him, his “socket to the centre” policy was a political philosophy aimed at aligning Cross River with the national power structure for development benefits.

Ayade recalled that immediately after joining the APC, he publicly endorsed then-presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, describing him as the only leader capable of fixing Nigeria.

“I said on national and international platforms that if Tinubu could fix Lagos, he could fix Nigeria,” the former governor said.

Ayade noted that he actively participated in the APC campaigns, often prioritising Tinubu’s presidential bid over his own election interests.

He expressed satisfaction that his prediction came true with Tinubu’s emergence as President, saying, “I’m happy today that he is the president of this country.”

On whether he felt fairly treated by the APC, Ayade said his loyalty remained steadfast despite political challenges in Cross River.

“I carry the scars of the battle for my state’s sovereignty, but I believe President Tinubu understands and will surprise this country,” he added.
