An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Umar Sarkin Fada Moriki, has been killed by yet-to-be-identified gunmen in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
ThemomentNG learnt that the politician was shot dead in the early hours of Saturday near Fegi village, close to Gidan Dawa, while travelling from Gusau to Kaduna.
The attackers reportedly opened fire on his vehicle, killing him instantly.
The Zamfara State chapter of the APC, led by Hon. Tukur Umar Danfulani, confirmed the killing in a statement issued in Gusau.
According to the statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Yusuf Idris Gusau, Moriki had earlier attended the APC stakeholders’ meeting and the grand reception organised in honour of the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle.
Moriki, aged 62, previously served in several key positions, including as Vice Chairman of Zurmi Local Government Area, Director-General, State Revenue Generation and Special Adviser on Rural Electrification.
He was widely regarded within the party as a dedicated administrator and community leader.
Naija News learnt that following the news of the killing, Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, cancelled all scheduled activities in his hometown of Maradun to attend the funeral prayer for the slain chieftain.
The APC described Moriki as a selfless figure who devoted his life to public service and humanitarian efforts.
“He was a philanthropist known for his simplicity, dedication and support for the less privileged,” the party said.
Moriki is survived by three wives and several children.
