The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State, Abubakar Bawa, has resigned from the party, citing the lingering leadership crisis and endless court cases plaguing the PDP at the national level.
Sources reports that Bawa announced his resignation at a press briefing on Monday, saying the turmoil within the party had made it impossible for him to continue.
He stated, “I want to formally inform you and Taraba residents that I have resigned as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, and I have already written to my ward chairman.”
In his resignation letter, dated November 17, 2025, Bawa stated that recent events within the PDP had forced him to step aside.
“This decision comes after deep reflection and careful consideration of recent developments within our great party, particularly the lingering crisis and series of litigations at the national level, which have gravely affected the unity, functionality and integrity of the party structure across the country,” he stated.
He added that the prolonged national leadership tussle had created “institutional uncertainty,” making it increasingly difficult to align with the party’s direction.
Bawa noted that his years in the PDP had been marked by loyalty and commitment.
He said, “I have served the PDP faithfully and with unwavering commitment over the years, most recently as the chairman of the party in Taraba State, and I remain grateful for the trust, confidence, and support accorded to me by members at all levels.
“My political journey within the PDP has been one of service, sacrifice and dedication to a democratic process that puts the people first.”
However, he added that stepping aside had become necessary to preserve his “personal political integrity and the values I stand for.”
Bawa said he would now take time to decide his next political direction.
“In light of the prevailing circumstances, I believe it is appropriate to step aside and review my future political directions,” he said.
He thanked the leadership and members of his ward for their cooperation, friendship and support throughout his service to the party.
Bawa added, “Please accept the assurance of my highest regard.”
