The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has assured of support towards the success of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund’s (NELFUND’S) mandate on easing financial burden on Nigerian students.
The Director General (DG) of NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, gave this assurance when the Chief Executive Officer of NELFUND, Mr Akintunde Sawyer, visited him in his office.
Nafiu, who hailed the agency for helping the Nigerian youths to achieve their academic dreams without financial challenges, said the NYSC was willing to go into partnership with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of government as well as other entities that were interested in the empowerment of the youths.
He added that the Scheme would help in sensitizing Corps Members and other members of the public on NELFUND’s activities so as to ensure its sustainability.
Earlier, Sawyer had told the DG that his visit was to enable the agency to understudy NYSC’s mode of operations as the only agency that was moulding the characters of Nigerian graduate youths.
He informed that NELFUND loan beneficiaries were expected to start repayment two years after completing the NYSC programme.
“We are here to learn from our big brother, NYSC. We feel that we need to have a strong handshake with you because when they leave us, they come to you. Our exchange of information and collaboration is critical.
We use NIN, BVN and JAMB Registration Number, and we will like to copy other unique identities that you apply to Passing-out Corps Members for the success of our loan recovery,” he said.
He used the occasion praise the NYSC managers for sustaining the ideals of its founding fathers, making reference to its numerous achievements since inception, including the entrenchment of inter-tribal marriages amongst Corps members.
